Job Title: Major Gifts Officer

Position Type: Full Time/40 hours per week, M-F

Advocates for Children is looking for a seasoned Major Gifts Officer to lead cultivation and solicitation activities. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for contacting, cultivating and setting up visits for donors with the Development Director, Executive Director, and independently to support revenue-generating campaigns, including major and planned gifts. This position is integral in the effort to cultivate relationships and solicit substantial gifts from current and prospective donors. The ideal candidate is comfortable with making both cold and warm calls, knows how to be persistent without pestering, and understands nuanced persuasion.

Responsibilities:

Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, focusing on individuals and foundations with a capacity to give a gift of $5,000 and above.

Schedule and manage logistics of meetings with donors independently, for key staff, and for board members.

Assist with the planning of major gifts and planned giving campaigns.

Arrange 8-10 personal visits with major gift donors and prospects every month.

Coordinate 4 cultivation events every year.

Develop strategies and implement a plan to increase current donors to higher levels of giving.

Mine current and former annual giving donors and event attendees for the identification of major gift prospects.

Research, build and maintain prospective donor lists through the identification, cultivation and solicitation cycles.

Work with data entry staff to track and record all activities in donor database.

Requirements:

Proven success in soliciting and securing gifts of $10,000 and above.

Three or more years of fundraising, planned giving, or related experience.

Track record of managing mailings and databases, and coordinating small events.

Passion for details as well as the ability to adapt to changing priorities while effectively multitasking.

Must be fluent in computer business software, including Word, Excel,

PowerPoint and relational databases like eTapestry and Foundation Search.

Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

Ability and willingness to travel to appointments locally (Atlanta/Northwest Georgia).

Outstanding interpersonal skills to establish cooperative, tactful, effective, and harmonious relationships with co-workers, donors, volunteers, and the public.

Track record of successfully managing complex projects and ability to identify and respond to issues/opportunities in a timely manner.

Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion and confidentiality with sensitive donor information.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Additional Information:
Must have a valid GA license and be able to lift 25 pounds

This is an exempt, full-time position. Candidates must be able to work nights/weekends as needed.
